PHRYGIA. Apameia. Hadrian, 117-138. Assarion (Bronze, 19 mm, 5.51 g, 6 h). ΑΔΡΙ[ΑΝ]ΟϹ [ΚΑΙϹ ϹΕΒA] Laureate bust of Hadrian to right, with aegis on his left shoulder. Rev. ΑΠΑΜΕΩΝ ΜΑΡϹΥΑϹ ΚΙΒΩΤΟΙ Marsyas, naked but for chlamys over lower limbs, reclining left in rocky cave, above which are five chests, holding cornucopia in his raised right hand, double flute in his left; beneath him, inverted vase from which water flows. BMC 155-6. RPC II 2586. The obverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, very fine.
